Lightning Links: Julien BriseBois staying in Tampa Bay for now

Wrapped up a week’s vacation with the family, which meant I’ve had no time for this blog. Like you, I’ve been enjoying other activities during the off season, but let’s recap what we missed:

Assistant GM Julien BriseBois will stay in Tampa for now after former Canes GM Jim Rutherford gets the gig in Pittsburgh. (I guess Rutherford hinting at retirement when let go in Carolina was a nice way to get out of a press conference unscathed.) ESPN

Frank Reynolds Phil Esposito will make an appearance at the Lightning Made camp in Ellenton this summer. Tampa Bay Lightning

The Tampa Bay Times Forum is the fourth best NHL arena says one set of experts. That’s bold. Paul Swaney | Stadium Journey

The reviewer of the Forum from last year faulted the lack of options in the neighborhood. Jeff Vinik filed a rezoning application so he would have entitlements beside the Tampa Convention Center to build a 400-room hotel, 50 condos and 45,000 square feet of retail, which is enough retail to be the size of a Walmart Neighborhood Market.  Richard Mullins | Tampa Tribune

Ben Bishop can finally use both his arms with more comfort. His right wrist is getting stronger and left elbow is getting there. Joe Smith | Tampa Bay Times

Raw Charge does a nice job explaining New York tax bracket and Florida’s lack of one and the complication of Callahan’s possible paycheck. Over a course of a six-year-deal he’d get an extra $2.4 million here. Honestly, Dan Ellis had a point about complicated finances in pro sports. Clare Austin | Raw Charge

But at least Callahan is still negotiating with the Lightning and not waiting to resume talks on July 1. Joe Smith | Tampa Bay Times

Dan Boyle a New York Islander? John Tavares needs help on this team throughout the lineup and Garth Snow is betting Boyle would say yes. Curtis Pashelka and David Pollak | San Jose Mercury News

Enough about the past. Hockey’s Future hands out year-end awards to the Lightning’s prospects.  Chris Roberts | Hockey’s Future

I want to hear more of Tyler Johnson’s trip to the Red Light District and less about him puking in Belarus. Joe Smith | Tampa Bay Times

No official announcement yet, but mark your calendar for June 27 for a Draft Watch Party. Please Lightning, do not hold it at Champs Sports. Parking is horrible at International Plaza and there was nowhere to move my last go ’round.
